Core 2019 Cards That Have Caught My Attention. (SPOILER)
Core 2019 has brought forth some really interesting cards. Here are some that made me unconsciously pencil them into a deck build. The first card that made my brain launch into fantasies of a competitive Standard Elf deck was Elvish Clancaller.
This unassuming 1/1, which I'm sure was a direct gift to modern elves, is a missing link in the Standard Elf curve. It promises to buff your elves in the early game and call up additional support in the late game. Its non-legendary status wins this creature my vote for most likely to succeed.
The next card that I'm ready to start building with is another tribal lord (I might have a thing for tribes). It's none other than Death Baron.
There was a time when you could give your Zombies menace and be happy that they were going to get some damage through. Now, you can give them all deathtouch with a +1/+1 buff. Lord of the Accursed is still there to buff creatures and give menace. Dread Wanderer now has a buddy to fill the battlefield early...Diregraf Ghoul. Liliana, Death's Majesty is there to support the overall Zombie apocalypse and there's also creatures like Ammit Eternal who will become monstrously huge.
The next group of cards is more of a curiosity than a feasible idea. You can probably guess that I'm the kind of person who loves me some Crested Sunmare. And there's only one thing better than a deck with Crested Sunmare in it...a deck with 5 different colored horse creatures. That's right....I think WOTC wants me to build a 5 color indestructible horse deck. Each horse has its own abilities that add to the overall power of this (and you can be honest here) ridiculously bad idea for a deck.
Do you known how I know they want me to try this? The CMC is just sitting there....perfectly curved out. Maybe, if I want to be realistic, I can keep it Green and White, but rest assured...this deck will be made and it will be one of the most insane things that I've ever built. I mean...just look at all of the double mana symbols...it's like a warning sign saying ..don't even try it.
I suppose I should end with the two planeswalkers that I am most anxious to build with...Vivien and Ajani.
Vivien is the real deal. Being in green, it's possible to get her out as early as turn 3. And Vivien Reid can do it all. She's digging up creatures for you or destroying pretty much anything your opponent has out. Her emblem is sick.
Ajani is not as powerful, but he does have the scrappy factor. If you're fighting the tokens fight or the bogles-like fight, Ajani just might be that thing that keeps you slamming creatures down your opponent's throat.
I'm curious what you think. What are you excited for? Let me know in the comments.
