Electrostatic Afterlife: Pummeler's Revenge!

Here is my decklist for my new favorite deck...Electrostatic Afterlife: a lovely combination of Electrostatic Pummeler and God-Pharaoh's Gift. How to win: Play Electrostatic Pummeler (get energy); let your opponent kill it. Get God-Pharaoh's Gift onto the field.  Bring Electrostatic Pummeler back as a 4/4.  If you  have Key to the City out...make it unblockable.  Then double double the Pummeler and swing away! Creatures-19 Electrostatic Pummeler x 4 Trophy Mage x 4 Champion of Wits x 3 Nimble Obstructionist x 4 Striped Riverwinder x 4 Spells-17 Contingency Plan x 3 God-Pharaoh's Gift x 2 Gate to the Afterlife x 3 Key to the City x 2 Negate x 4 Disallow x 3 Land Island x 24 Sideboard Jace, Unraveler of Secrets x 2 Supreme Will x 3 Reason//Believe x 3 Riddleform x 2 Mirror Mage x 3 Fraying Sanity x 2 I've considered enchanting myself with Fraying Sanity in order to get the 6 creatures required in order to set off God-Pharaoh's gift, but

Unexpected gift from a friend

An old friend of mine who has been playing for a while called me last week and said he wanted to have lunch because he had a surprise for me.  He met me in the parking lot and proceeded to load my car with his entire MTG collection dating back to the Innistrad Block.  He said he had stopped playing and wanted the cards to go to a good home.  I'm have been a strict Standard player.  I usually sell off my cards that are rotating out in order to fund my purchase of the next set.  But now I hold in my hands entire sets of Innistrad, Avacyn Restored, and Dark Ascension as well as, the entire 2012 set.  He also gave me everything from BFZ to Shadows over Innistrad (full playsets).  First of all, I fully intend on giving his some cash for this.  You don't hand me playsets of Liliana of the Veil and Snapcaster Mage and expect to walk away empty handed.  Altogether, at first run through, the entire collection is worth about $1000 not including the pile of deck boxes and playmats.

Self-Serving Solemnity

I started playing a deck that I have been refining over the last few days.  It includes the following cards at its core.  There are some build up cards that are not finalized, but the overall idea is to use Solemnity in order to drop these large creatures without incurring the -1/-1 counter cost.  So far I've had a really good time playing this.  It has protected me from Energy and -1/-1 counter decks and has let me attack with an 8/8 on turn 5 (Solemnity turn 3, Ammit Eternal turn 4, and Consuming Fervor turn 5). I'll continue to build, but if you have any ideas...feel free to throw them out. Happy Playing.

Hour of Devastation Flood

There is so much content being produced right now.  I feel like I can't keep up.  But I will persevere.  I'll keep watching; I'll keep learning.  Update: I've decided to stop following Desolator Magic. I feel relatively safe saying this on my blog, since there is virtually nobody reading this (anonymity is awesome).  I watched one of his recent posts on YouTube and really felt like he didn't represent what I love about this community.  He was disparaging another content creator, not in a professional manner, but in a very personal way that made his rant (one of his many) unpleasant to hear.  I don't mind his rants about net-deckers or WOTC decisions or stuff like that, but when he resorts to belittling another content creator--it's a little too childish for me to take. My next project is to make the Samut Planeswalker work...big hopes here.  Let me know what you think. Happy Playing.

Back from out of town

Just returned from a short trip.  Upon my return I built a Samut deck that was based on it's ability to flash in and do double damage. The first two or three turns were used to get Key to the City on the board and a ramp creature.  I flashed Samut in at the end of my opponent's 4th turn using a ramp creature (Naga Vitalist or Channeler Initiate).  Then I'd play Insult//Injury, make Samut unblockable with Key to the City and swing in.  I'd then either use Blossoming Defense or Built to Smash to get Samut's power up past 5.  The combination is a turn 5 swing for an unblockable 20.  I've messed around with the sideboard and have added creatures like Soul-Scar Mage, but really the core is that combination of Samut, Key to the City, Insult//Injury, and Blossoming Defense. I'm curious if anyone out there has any other ideas with regard to this deck or any additions from Hour of Devastation. Until then, happy playing. MTG Strategist
