Unexpected gift from a friend
An old friend of mine who has been playing for a while called me last week and said he wanted to have lunch because he had a surprise for me. He met me in the parking lot and proceeded to load my car with his entire MTG collection dating back to the Innistrad Block. He said he had stopped playing and wanted the cards to go to a good home.
I'm have been a strict Standard player. I usually sell off my cards that are rotating out in order to fund my purchase of the next set.
But now I hold in my hands entire sets of Innistrad, Avacyn Restored, and Dark Ascension as well as, the entire 2012 set. He also gave me everything from BFZ to Shadows over Innistrad (full playsets).
First of all, I fully intend on giving his some cash for this. You don't hand me playsets of Liliana of the Veil and Snapcaster Mage and expect to walk away empty handed. Altogether, at first run through, the entire collection is worth about $1000 not including the pile of deck boxes and playmats. I figure I'll give him at least half of what it's worth...$500.
So...I guess I should play Modern now?
Also, Is this going to happen to me? Am I going to dump my entire collection one day and walk?
Scary thought.
