The Community of Content Creators-MTG
A few months back I held a contest. The point of the contest was to promote new and upcoming Magic the Gathering content creators. The rules were simple. All you had to do was find a MTG content creator on YouTube, watch one of their videos, leave the comment "You are MTG", and share the video on Twitter with #WeAreMTG attached. The content creator had to have less than 1500 subscribers.
The prize was a modern devil deck. The deck was ok...nothing special.
The response I received was remarkable.
A sector of the MTG community saw this as an opportunity to show everyone that there was more kinship and respect here than hate.
It was quite overwhelming.
Seeing the opportunity, I asked many of the participants to join a group that I dubbed "The MTG Community of Content Creators". Again, the response was remarkable.
They took up the mantle of #WeAreMTG and began to spend time talking about how to make their content better.
Bloggers, podcasters, writers, YouTubers...
They all joined in. The new guy or gal would ask a question and the veterans would escort him or her to the answer. Somebody would post an idea and everyone would move to tell them if they thought it was a good one. Then they would lend a hand in getting it done.
We were watching each others Twitch streams and videos, reading each others articles.
We were laughing about how hard it was to get our microphones to sound right.
We were pointing out the difference between being funny and being cynical.
We were becoming friends.
Our mutual respect became the bedrock of the group. Nobody disparaged anyone. Criticism wasn't taken as an attack. We learned from each other.
And our channels grew.
The reason I am telling this story is because I would like to invite you...the new and upcoming content creators to join us. If you make Magic the Gathering content...in an form...and want to be in a group that will support you, listen to you, help you make better content...then you are one of us.
If you're tired of getting kicked in the face for making an effort and want to talk to some people who are serious about what they do, then there is a place for you here.
Find me on Facebook, Twitter, or leave a comment here. I'll help you find your way.
