Attempting to Make a Standard Deck with Jaya Ballard Part 2
Okay. Thanks everyone for some great suggestions. There were three lines of thought. The first was to add cards to the current deck, keeping it creature-less and black/red. The second was to keep it the same colors but to add creatures. The third was to add blue and make it more of a control-based deck. All three have there merits. But starting with the first suggestion, I added some cards to the fight that could help us make the most out of Jaya. The biggest addition being Chandra, Torch of Defiance.
Fight with Fire can deliver a massive hit to your opponent in the late game (especially if you have two Planeswalkers generating 5 mana) if you can manage to kick it. Between our treasure production and the available mana...I don't think that's a bridge too far.
The next two additions made the most sense to support both of our main win conditions (Revel in Riches and Fight with Fire).
Primal Amulet can double up our Fight with Fire to deliver a knock out punch and Treasure Map is one of the best card draw engines in the format. Additionally, it makes Treasures...which are relevant.
I added some more removal and some lands that can support both Ascend and graveyard removal. Take a look and let me know what you think. Your suggestions have been great. This deck plays a lot better and pushes Jaya to get things done. I'll put together Jaya decks based on the other lines of thought as well to see which one plays the best. I know it's probably going to be the control deck, but I'll do that one last...because control deserves to go last.
And the sideboard:
The reason for the addition is pretty straight forward. She can complement Jaya's mana adding ability with her own. She can draw fire and destroy stuff. Plus...adding a positive strong female role model to the deck for Jaya to emulate is probably good for team building.
